The Shillong Law College, established in 1964, as an evening institution registered under the Societies Registration Act, No. XXI of 1860. It is also listed under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956, and recognized by the Bar Council of India. Initially affiliated with Gauhati University, the college has been affiliated with North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) since 1973 and received permanent affiliation in 2007.
The college offers a 3-year LL.B. Degree Course and a 5-year B.A.LL.B Integrated Degree Course. Many graduates hold prominent positions, including High Court Judges, Advocate General, and Additional Advocate General. Notable alumni include Shri S. N. Phukan, former Chief Justice of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh and Supreme Court Judge, Justice Home Choudhury, Justice A.P. Subbah, Justice B. Lamare, Justice S.R. Sen, and Justice Nelson Sailo. Several graduates have also served as Registrar General of the High Court of Meghalaya and various judicial positions.
